The Tomorrowland festival has been around for 15 years and though that may seem relatively young, it is one of the largest festivals in the world. It is held annually in Belgium and has been since 2005. It is known as an electronic music festival, but people travel from far and wide to attend the festival, even those who do not necessarily love electronic music. Tomorrowland is held over two entire weekends and is known for impressive ticket sales; selling out in only a matter of minutes, perhaps even seconds. The festival is so popular that there are spin-off festivals which include:
- TomorrowWorld; held in Georgia, USA
- Tomorrowland Brasil; a spin-off held annually in Brasil which has over 180000 in attendance. This festival has been around since 2014.
- Tomorrowland Winter; this is the newest spin-off and takes place in the French Alps. The first Tomorrowland Winter is being held in March 2019.
If you have heard of Tomorrowland, or maybe you have actually been, here are some things you may not know about the festival:
- There was once an opportunity to go for free. That’s right, one of the most popular, and therefore most expensive, festivals in the world once gave out passes for free. This actually helped create a buzz around the festival and make it appear extremely popular.
- The highest Ferris wheel in Europe was at Tomorrowland. That’s right, the tallest mobile Ferris wheel in the entire continent was actually found at Tomorrowland, reaching heights over 60m.
- Art is actually the focal point of the festival. The festival prides itself on the art installations, some of which are moving art, others are merely inanimate displays.
- Lasers are not always your friend. Lasers caused physical pain, and even eye bleeding, for some festival-goers, as a result of intense laser shows and displays at Tomorrowland 2009.
- Tomorrowland has a library. That’s right, a proper library full of books is available to festival goers and attendees, in case they are looking for some literary relief.
- There is an International Dance Music Awards, and if you didn’t know that, you probably didn’t realise that Tomorrowland actually took home the award of the best international festival one year.
- Tomorrowland has a church. It is not just any church, it is the church of love, and is actually rumoured to be a place where the “nuns” take care of guests sexual and other needs.
